Obituary of Joseph M. Villa

Bridgewater: Mr. Joseph M. Villa, 57, died Friday, April 23, 2010 at Somerset Medical Center in Somerville. Born and raised in Jersey City, he resided in North Plainfield, Basking Ridge and Summit before moving to Bridgewater two years ago. Joseph attended classes at the University of Arizona and continued to learn throughout his life. In 1984, he became the owner of Mackie's Furniture in North Plainfield. He proudly ran the company for over 22 years, retiring in 2006. Joseph enjoyed traveling, especially to the Southwest to spend time with his grandchildren which brought him great joy in his later years. He also liked boating and taking road trips cross-country. His father, John Villa predeceased him. Surviving are his mother Ann Villa, his son, Matthew Villa and his wife Margo of Las Cruces, NM; three daughters, Meridith Sloan and her husband Peter of VA, Natalie Villa and Rachel Villa both of Las Cruces, NM; two brothers, John and Thomas Villa; two sisters, Mary Ann Gately and Ann Villa; his companion Sandy Bresticker; and five grandchildren, Avery, Jonathan, Madeleine, Stephen and Henry Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, April 29 at 9:00 am from the Higgins Home for Funerals, 752 Mountain Blvd., Watchung followed by a 10 am Mass of Resurrection at St. Bernard's Church in Bridgewater and interment at St. Bernard's Cemetery in Bridgewater. Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 2-4 & 7-9 pm
