Bernard Ostroff
Green Brook: Bernard "Bob" Ostroff, age 80, died on Thursday May 6, 2010 at his home in Green Brook. Mr. Ostroff was born and had grown up in Philadelphia, PA. He had resided in South Plainfield and Plainfield before moving to Green Brook 33 years ago.
Mr. Ostroff received a Bachelors Degree in 1952 and Masters Degree in 1954 both in English from Rutgers University, New Brunswick, NJ.
He was a past member of Temple Sholom for over 50 years.
While serving in the United States Army from 1954 to 1956, Mr. Ostroff was stationed in Japan.
He began his career as an assistant furniture buyer at Bloomingdale's and later became a buyer for Bamberger's. Mr. Ostroff was also a realtor for Weichert Realty in Warren NJ. He taught a course in Great Dancing in the Movies for Rutgers's Life Long Learning Institute where he was a member of the Advisory Council and he also taught cross cultural training at Counterpoint.
Mr. Ostroff was a talented painter; his paintings were displayed and sold at many art shows.
He is predeceased by a daughter Lise Polishook in 2001
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Doris (Goldstein) Ostroff; a son David R. Ostroff ; a daughter Judith Leshner,her husband Howard, and a sister Shirley Sherman. He is also survived by three granddaughters Amy, Dena and Sharon.
A funeral service will be held on Sunday May 9, 2010 at Higgins Home for Funerals 752 Mountain Blvd. Watchung NJ 07069 with Rabbi Moshe Samber officiating. Interment to follow at Mount Lebanon Cemetery in Iselin.
