Obituary of Armando Cilenti

Armando Cilenti, 87, died on Friday, May 7th, 2010 at his home. He was born in Melfi, Italy on January 27th, 1923. He immigrated to the US in 1953. He was a resident of Plainfield for 18 years before moving to Warren in 1971. Armando served in the Italian Air force during WWII. He was a prisoner in a Nazi work camp. He escaped by tunneling under a fence and walked across Germany under the cover of night to return to the Italian border. He enjoyed gardening, wine and cheese making and the company of his friends and family. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Angelina and his brother John Cilenti of Livingston; four daughters and seven grandchildren. A funeral Mass will be held on Friday, May 14th at 10:00 a.m. at Blessed Sacrament Church in Martinsville followed by entombment at Somerset Hills Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be on Thursday from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. at Higgins Home for Funerals, 752 Mountain Blvd., Watchung.
