Sister Ruth Mary Holland, Sister of Mercy (former Sister Mary Nativitas)
Sister Ruth Mary, 88, died peacefully on July 13, 2010 at Overlook Hospital, Summit, NJ.
Sister was born and raised in Trenton, NJ and attended Cathedral High School where she was a star player on the basketball team. She entered the Sisters of Mercy in 1940. She received a BS degree in Elementary Education from Georgian Court College, Lakewood, NJ.
Through the years, she ministered within the Dioceses of Trenton, Camden and Metuchen. She taught at Our Lady Star of the Sea-Atlantic City,
Saint Mary-South Amboy, St Joseph-Keyport, St Matthew-Edison, Saint John-Collingswood, St Paul-Princeton and Sacred Heart-South Plainfield.
She was retired to McAuley Hall Health Care Center in Watchung where she continued her ministry of prayer and hospitality.
She was predeceased by her brothers Joseph S. and Arthur J. Holland,
and a half brother Edward Atwood.
She is survived by her sister-in-law Elizabeth Holland, several nieces, nephews, grand nieces and grand nephews and also many Sisters of Mercy in the Mid-Atlantic Community.
Visitation will take place at McAuley Hall Health Care Center on
Saturday, July 17, 2010 from 9:00 am - 10:30 am followed by Mass of Christian burial at 10:30am.
Burial in Holy Redeemer Cemetery, South Plainfield, NJ.
