Obituary of Gloria R. Johnson

Gloria Rotondo Johnson, retired Hoechst Celanese Data Center Manager, passed away July 31, 2010. She was a long time resident of Dunellen and Bridgewater, NJ. Born in Plainfield, NJ, she attended Piscataway Grammar and Saint John's in Dunellen, graduating from Dunellen High School. She furthered her education through Computer Science courses at Rutgers, Fairleigh Dickerson, and IBM. A graduate of Dale Carnegie she was awarded the Outstanding Student Award. She was Vice President of the NY Computer Management Association whose mission was to create technology plans for global information processing. Recognized for her outstanding contribution to Hoechst Celanese, she was honored in 1978 by the YWCA National Board with a bronze sculpture by renowned artist Judith Brown presented at The Waldorf Astoria. She was actively involved with the Dunellen Board of Education and the Girl Scouts of America. As Chairperson for American Hoechst's United Way Campaign, she was recognized for exceeding the company's monetary goal. Gloria was an avid tennis player, golfer, and a stand-out catcher for the Arborettes, a girl's softball team in the 1940's. She was also a huge Yankees fan. She is survived by her husband of 61 years, Robert F. Johnson, and a daughter, Rita Love, of Puerto Vallarta, Mexico and Port Murray, NJ. Her son, Gary Robert Johnson, passed away in 1994. She is also survived by a grandson Forest Love, his wife Tajalli Love, and their daughter Evelyn Rose Love of San Francisco, two granddaughters, Ashley Kay Cobb her husband Ryan Cobb, and Madelyn Diane Johnson residing in upstate New York. Her surviving sisters, Margarita Renga and Dolores Urban, reside in Florida. A visitation will be held on Thursday, August 5th, from 2-4 & 7-9 pm at Higgins Home for Funerals, 752 Mountain Blvd, Watchung, NJ. Funeral Services will begin at 9 am Friday, August 6th at the funeral home, followed by a 10:00 am Mass of Resurrection at Blessed Sacrament RC Church, Washington Valley Road, Martinsville, NJ. In lieu of flowers, donations will be accepted for Community Care Hospice, 110 West End Avenue, Somerville.
