Obituary of William C. Powderly

Mr. William C. Powderly, 84, died Monday, August 2, 2010 at McAuley Hall Health Care Center in Watchung. Born and raised in Brooklyn, Bill moved to Watchung, NJ six years ago. He attended Townsend Harris High School in Queens, NY, received a BA summa cum laude from St. Francis College in downtown Brooklyn, and then taught at Fordham University. In 1952 he joined the US Navy as a Lieutenant JG, serving in the Korean War. He married Angela M. DeLucie in 1955 and had 3 children. His son John William Powderly died in 1958. Surviving are two daughters, Dr. Mary K. Powderly of Somerset, NJ and Anne G. Powderly of Brooklyn, NY. Bill attended the Stonier School of Banking at Rutgers University. He worked in banking until his retirement in 1995. Bill was an active parishioner in St. Anselm Church in Brooklyn for 40 years. He also served for many years as head of Kings Right to Life Party. After his wife, Angela, passed away in 2003, he pursued a graduate degree in Theology and Divinity at Holy Apostles Seminary in Cromwell, Connecticut. His sister, Dr. Mary Tong of Oradell, NJ, predeceased him this past May 23rd. Visitation will be held at McAuley Hall Health Care Center, 1633 Hwy 22, Watchung, NJ on Thursday, August 5 from 9:00 - 11:00 am followed by an 11:00 am Mass of the Resurrection. Interment will follow at Calverton National Cemetery on Long Island. In lieu of flowers, donations to McAuley Hall Health Care Center in his memory would be deeply appreciated.
