Obituary of Sr. Edwarda Barry

Sister Edwarda, 89 died on July 20, 2013, at McAuley Hall Health Center in Watchung, NJ Sister Edwarda was born in Trenton, NJ She attended Blessed Sacrament Grammar School, and Cathedral High School in Trenton. After entering the Sisters of Mercy in 1942, she attended Georgian Court College and Fordham University from which she received a Ph.D. in Sociology. She taught in the following schools: St. John, Lambertville; St. John, Collingswood; St. Mary, South Amboy. She became the first chair of the Sociology Department at Georgian Court College. She worked in Social Concerns, in St. Francis, Metuchen, was the local leader of the Sisters in St. James, Red Bank. Sister Edwarda was a co-founder of the House of Prayer at Mount Saint Mary, Watchung, and co-director of the Center for Christian Concerns at Georgian Court. She was also an assistant to the president of the college and currently was the University Historian. Sister Edwarda loved her Mercy family and was a devoted member of the Barry family. She is survived by devoted cousins, nieces, nephews, grandnieces, and grandnephews of her deceased brothers Ted and Jack Barry of Trenton. Visitation will take place at McAuley Hall Health Care Center, 1633 Highway 22, Watchung, NJ on July 24, 2013. Wake from 9:00 to 11:00am, with the Welcome Home Service at 9:45am; followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00am.
