Obituary of Sr. Mary Monica Pullman
Sister Mary Monica Pullman, Sister of Mercy
Sister Monica, 88, died suddenly and peacefully on Sunday, August 29, 2010 at the home of her nephew in Absecon, NJ.
Sister Monica was born in Atlantic City, NJ and attended Our Lady of Star of the Sea School and Holy Spirit High School. She entered the Sisters of Mercy in 1939. She earned a BS degree in Elementary Education from Georgian Court College, Lakewood, NJ and a MA degree in Special Education from Seton Hall University, NJ.
Sister Monica taught elementary school for more than forty years. Teaching in St. Joseph School, North Plainfield, St. Joseph School, Trenton, St. James School, Red Bank, St. Mary School, Perth Amboy, St. Joseph School, Keyport, Our Lady of Lourdes School, Milltown, St. Mary School, Trenton, St. John School, Paulsboro and Sacred heart School, South Plainfield. Her career in Special Education began in 1972 and she taught in St. Nicholas, Atlantic City and then came to McAuley Hall for Exceptional Children in Watchung where she taught for twenty years.
Before retiring, she became the Director of the McAuley Hall Prayer Guild for several years. She resided in Gabriel Hall, Watchung, NJ which is the retirement unit for the Sisters of Mercy.
She is survived by a brother, Charles Pullman, nephews, Thomas and Edward Pullman, nieces Roseanne Lewis (James), Mary Beth Manschner (Alan) and several grand nieces and nephews.
Visitation will take place at Immaculate Conception Chapel-Mount Saint Mary, 1645 Highway 22, Watchung, NJ on Friday, September 3, 2010 from 10:00 to 11:30 am followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:30 a.m. Burial is at Holy Redeemer Cemetery, South Plainfield, NJ.
