Last Memorial Day I believe it was Tom who drove the ambulance when I collapsed at the service. When asked, Tom answered my request to go home in Warren. He was 2 years younger than me and knew he joined me with health concern. A stranger and a good man. God will not have to ask Tom for help he will be there. God bless Tom and the wonderful he leaves behind

Mrs. Sweeney and daughters,
I recently learned of your sad loss of Tom. Growing up in Bridgewater with the opportunity to know all of you makes Tom's passing a heart felt time. If you remember, my parents Ed and Mary Byrnes had your family over for pool parties during the summer. Sue and I were in the same grade as were Nancy and Kathleen. I always viewed Tom as a great guy to have known. He was an open and friendly man that always smiled in a way that showed who he really was. I was sad to leave behind such good friends when we moved away from Bridgewater in 1982. I hope you all the best in continuing to be the great family Tom brought into this world. I will donate to the rescue squad as I am also an EMT/Firefighter.

I remember Mr. Sweeney as being a jovial and kind man. I went to school with his daughters, and one time my father and I went on a sailing trip with him and his daughters. He kept a good attitude when the boat's motor stop working and we had to be towed.
His daughters were very nice people and I can only imagine some of this came from their father.

I think I have to begin at the large rock in our front yard on Concord Dr. where the neighborhood men all gathered to have deep discussions....there was Tom, Eddie,
Irv, Al, Bill, Barney, Jack & others at times...they made our life something special. And I remember all the good games that the Shadow Oaks team played - Tom, included...What great picnics we had in our backyard with the entire Sweeney family joining us...
And who could forget those Silver Burdett books that Tom gave to my children so that they could play school for hours on end? Tom was always there for me when I struggled with the NY Times Sunday crossword...and he was there too for my 4 children when their own father died over 30 years ago...thank you Tom...I will miss
visiting you each summer.....in truth I will just miss knowing that
you are no longer living on Concord Dr....but I know you will always be there in spirit.

From the fist time I met you, Tom, I knew you were a very special man indeed -- so kind, so warm and so caring. It was unfortunate that you lived so far away, and that I only got to see you when you visited Raleigh. I am grateful, however, to witness a part of your legacy by knowing Marianne, Steve, Emily and Missy. They are such a wonderful, caring family, and surely a lasting reflection of your good character and moral strength.
Thank you, Tom. I know that the world is a better place because you were here.

I will always remeber how after the Hahns visited you they would come back and say that you had asked about me, and how exited I'd get knowing that you remembered me! Missy cares about you so much and the other night she was telling me about all the good times you guys had together as a family and how much she loves you. Im glad I got the chance to meet you, Missy has so much of you in her by the way she is caring towards others. Im going to miss you.
