I remember Frankie as we called him when we were little children. Our mothers were best friends from childhood. We would go up to Pelham on a Sunday and have dinner with Aunt Dot and Uncle Frank. She always had the best deviled eggs. Of course as we grew up and moved away just our parents remained close. I lost my dad Scotty in December 2006 amd my mom Margaret in November 2008. I will keep him in my prayers.

Mr. Gratzer was a constant presence in my life from elementary school through high school - I saw him almost daily when visitng Carolyn after school. In that sense I feel like he's a part of my family, too. "Grace" is a word Carolyn used when she told me he was gravely ill - and grace is what I've always seen in him. He had a way of moving through life with a presence and spirit that put people at ease, that showed them he cared and loved them. I'm going to miss that.
I'm not able to be at the services this weekend, as I'm in West Africa and couldn't find a way back in time. But I'm sitting here in the desert air and thinking about you guys and your amazing family, and how lucky I've been to be a part of that and what Mr.Gratzer built.
I love you guys, and I'm with you in my heart.

What a moving and illuminating obituary. You capture the spirit and character of your beloved Frank, who left his mark on all who knew him. The world will be dimmer without him, but brighter for the fact that you all shared it with him. With sympathy and love,

Frankie and I grew up in the same building in the Bronx. Since he was five years older, I played the role of a pesky little cousin/brother but he handled it very well. His academic and life achievements served as an inspiration to me for the last sixty years.
Until we meet again at the Rainbow Bridge, Rest in Peace.

Dear Ann, Allison & Carolyn,
I am so very sad to hear of Frank's passing. It was my privilege and honor to know and work with Frank. I enjoyed the years that I worked for Frank. He was always a kind, pleasant man and so easy to work for - he was one of the most organized persons I knew so naturally it was a pleasure to work for him. Please except my deepest and heartfelt sympathy. I am so sad about Frank. All my blessings to you and your family,
Love, JoAnn

Hi Ann,
Blessings and peace to you and your family at this time of so many emotions and memories.
My husband died 16 years ago at age 54 and it was God's grace that saw me through to the other side of that mountain of grief. May you not be afraid to climb that mountain. I know this is the only way to the other side.
I regret not being able to attend the funeral but I wish you all the steadfastness of mind to reach out to life for yourself in this new time for you and your family.
My heart is with you.

Dear Gratzer family,
I am deeply saddened by the passing of Mr. Gratzer. I love that our families spend New Year's Day together. I always laughed when Mr. Gratzer would take his shoes off after he entered our home and sat on the couch. I don't know why but that always tickled me. Mr. Gratzer was the kindest, most soft spoken, gentle, intelligent man I have ever met. I hope to have as strong of a bond with my husband my entire life as Mr. and Mrs. Gratzer had during their many years together. Their love for one another was truly evident when watching their interactions and I always found it to be encouraging when thinking about my own future. I will miss Mr. Gratzer and hope that the family will find peace and comfort in the coming days, months, and years remembering and honoring his life discussing the many memories they have with one another. My family considers you all to be our family and I hope that we can help to comfort you. Love you all.
