Obituary of Julieta Cortese
Julieta Cortese, age 72, died on Saturday, November 13, 2010 at her home in Watchung.
Julieta was born and raised in the Philippines and came to the United States in 1966.
She graduated from The University of Santo Tomas in the Philippines with a Bachelor's degree and then went on to receive a Master's degree from Fordham University.
She was a math teacher at Mount St. Mary's High School in Watchung for 18 years and previously taught at Queen of Peace High School in North Arlington for 8 years.
Julieta was a member of St. Mary's Stony Hill Church in Watchung. She especially loved gardening, sewing and knitting.
She is predeceased by her stepson Paul Cortese and her parents, Dr. Gabriel and Catalina Sabater.
Surviving are her husband of 36 years, Salvatore Cortese; her son, Gabriel Cortese; her daughter; Dr. Julie Bower and her husband, John; and two stepsons, Anthony Cortese and his wife Donna and Frank Cortese; her sisters, Aurea Servida and Lucinda Dayrit; her brothers; Dr. Gilberto Sabater and Dr. Wilfredo Sabater; and other family and friends.
Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, November 17, 2010 at 9:00 a.m. at Higgins Home For Funerals, 752 Mountain Blvd., Watchung followed by a 10:00 a.m. Mass of Resurrection at St. Mary's Stony Hill Church, Watchung. Interment will follow at Hillside Cemetery, Scotch Plains. Visitation will be on Tuesday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. In lieu of flowers memorial donations can be made to Haven Hospice, 65 James St., Edison, NJ 08820.
