Obituary of Michael Joseph Sasso

Michael Joseph Sasso, age 91, died on Monday, December 13, 2010 at Overlook Hospital in Summit. Born and raised in Staten Island, he had lived in Watchung for 50 years. He attended Curtis High School on Staten Island and was a 3 sport star athlete. Michael was a Lieutenant in the Army Air Corp. during WWII; he was a Bombardier Navigator who flew on B-24 Liberator Bombers based in Lecci, Italy. He was awarded the Distinguished Unit Citation Air Medal for combat. Prior to retiring Michael was a Sales Representative for NY Twist Drill Co. in Melville, Long Island. He was a communicant of St. Mary's Stony Hill and enjoyed golfing in his spare time. Predeceased by his daughter Jean Sasso in 1988. Surviving is his loving wife Consuelo "Castro" Sasso; sons Richard and Michael Sasso; daughter Carol Ciarletta; sister Dorothy Messina; grandchildren Jason, Kelly, Randy, Katie, James, Michael, Barbara, Richard, Jr., Amanda, Marissa and Michael; two great-grandchildren Emily and Lauren. Funeral services will be on Friday, December 17th at 9:00 a.m. at Higgins Home for Funerals followed by a Funeral Mass at 10:00 a.m. at St. Mary's Stony Hill Church, Watchung cremation will follow at Somerset Hills Memorial Park, Basking Ridge.
