Obituary of Sr. Mary Evelyn Pitonyak

Sister Mary Evelyn Pitonyak, Sister of Mercy Sister Evelyn, 89 died peacefully on January 3, 2011 at McAuley Hall Health Care Center in Watchung, NJ. Sister was born and raised in Trenton, NJ and attended Cathedral High School in Trenton. She entered the Sisters of Mercy in 1942 and received a BS degree in Elementary Education from Georgian Court College, Lakewood, NJ. Through the years, she ministered within the Dioceses of Trenton and Metuchen. She taught at St. Joseph School in Trenton and Bound Brook; Sts Philip & James School, Phillipsburg; St John School in Lambertville and St Matthew School in Edison. She also served as Library Assistant at Georgian Court College in Lakewood. She retired in 1994 and spent her days in Saint James Convent until she moved to McAuley Hall in 1997. She is survived by two sisters Sister Mary Emeric Pitonyak of Watchung, NJ and Helen Pitonyak of Trenton NJ and two nephews Andrew and Thomas Pitonyak of Trenton, NJ and many Sisters of Mercy in the Mid-Atlantic Community. Visitation will take place at McAuley Hall Health Care Center on Thursday, January 6, 2011 from 10:00 - 11:00 am followed by Mass of Christian burial at 11:00am. Burial in Saint Mary Cemetery, Trenton, NJ.
