Obituary of William George Gilroy
William George Gilroy, age 84, died on Thursday, April 14, 2011 at his home in Warren. He was born and raised in Newark and had lived in Irvington and Union and resided in Brick before moving to Warren.
Prior to his retirement in 1984, Mr. Gilroy was an Electrical Technician for Western Electric in Union for over 30 years.
He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.
Mr. Gilroy was a member of the Pioneers, the Knights of Columbus in Union and the Princeton Common Men's Club in Brick. He also was a member of St. Martha's Church in Brick.
He enjoyed tennis, softball, basketball, wood carving, gardening and traveling with his late wife, Irene.
Mr. Gilroy is predeceased by his wife, Irene Kyak Gilroy in 2007; his sister, Clara Abel: his brothers, Thomas Gilroy, Patrick Gilroy, James Gilroy, Robert Gilroy, Paul Homlish , John Homlish.
He is survived by his son, William George Gilroy, Jr and his wife, April; his daughters, Karen Johnson and her husband Charles A. and Terri Defino and her former husband, Robert; his brother, Edward Gilroy and his grandchildren, Kimberly Johnson, Christopher Gilroy, Juliet Defino, Matthew Gilroy, Kailin Johnson, Desiree Defino, Beau Defino, Tyler Gilroy and Samuel Defino.
Funeral services will begin on Tuesday, April 19th at 9:30 a.m. at Higgins Home for Funerals, 752 Mountain Blvd., Watchung followed by a 10:30 a.m. Mass of Resurrection at Our Lady of the Mount Chapel in Warren. Interment will be at Graceland Memorial Park in Kenilworth. Visitation will be on Monday from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m.
