Obituary of Ruth Desnoyers

Mrs. Ruth Reid Desnoyers, age 89, passed away on Friday afternoon, August 23, 2013 at the Baptist Medical Center on Amelia Island, FL. Born in North Plainfield, NJ, she was one of seven children and the last living child born to the late Charles Adams and Clara Murphy Reid. Being raised in North Plainfield, she was a graduate of North Plainfield High School, Class of 1941. After high school, she attended the Katherine Gibbs Secretarial School. She later worked in the Banking Industry for a short time in New York City. In 1947, while at church choir practice, she met a young, recently discharged naval aviator Albert Henry Desnoyers Jr.; with whom she had attended high school. They would marry in 1949 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in North Plainfield. Mr. and Mrs. Desnoyers remained in North Plainfield, bringing each of their six children all home from the hospital to the same house. Mrs. Desnoyers stayed home raising children while her husband worked in the family appliance business which he would come to own in later years. Through the years the family vacationed at lakes in New England and eventually built a vacation home in Maine which helped create many lifelong memories. In 1976, the family moved to Watchung, NJ. Her husband retired and sold the family business in the mid 1980s. In 1997 Mr. and Mrs. Desnoyers built a home on Amelia Island into which they eventually moved full time. Mrs. Desnoyers enjoyed reading, playing Tennis and Golf, working with ceramics, was active in her Bridge Club and was a licensed pilot, often times flying the family's Cessna to Amelia Island with her husband. She was a member of St. Mary's Stony Hill RC Church in Watchung and St. Michael Catholic Church in Fernandina Beach on Amelia Island. In addition to her parents and siblings, she is preceded in death by a daughter, Suzanne Marie Desnoyers, who passed away in 2002. She leaves behind her husband of 64 years, Albert H. "Al" Desnoyers, Amelia Island, FL, their children, Charles Albert "Chip" Desnoyers (Jacki), Harleysville, PA, Mark Reid Desnoyers, MD (Dana), Mattapoisett, MA, Martha Claire Kranjc (John), McDonough, GA, Peter James Desnoyers (Jackie), Watchung, NJ, Rita Marie Desnoyers-Garcia (Enrique), South Orange, NJ, eight grandchildren, Andrew Reid Desnoyers, Adrienne Lin Desnoyers, Alexander Clifton Desnoyers, Memphis Autumn Leichter, Ethan Otto Leichter, Jessica Ruth Burshtynskyy, Melissa Marie Desnoyers, Isabella Marie Garcia, Susana Alicia Garcia, Diego Enrique Garcia, a great granddaughter, Emma Andrea Burshtynskyy and numerous nieces and nephews. The Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 am on Thursday, August 29, 2013 at St. Mary Stony Hill RC Church in Watchung, NJ. Her family will receive friends on Wednesday from 7-9 pm at Higgins Funeral Home 752 Mountain Blvd. Watchung. Mrs. Desnoyers will be laid to rest in Resurrection Cemetery, Piscataway, NJ.
