Obituary of Elsie Kredatus
Elsie Melo Kredatus, 86, died on August 2, 2011, at the Berkeley Heights Nursing and Rehabilation Center. Born in Clifton, she resided there most of her life before moving to Basking Ridge and then to Warren. After graduating from Clifton High School, Elsie was secretary to former Clifton City Manager William Holster. It was there that she met her future husband Edward J. Kredatus, who later served as Clifton Chief of Police. A longtime communicant at St. Phillip the Apostle R.C. Church, Elsie volunteered her time to the Pre-Cana Program. Elsie was an active member of the Parents Club at Xavier High School in New York City. She traveled extensively throughout the United States and enjoyed a summer home in Seaside Park, NJ. She reveled in the time she spent with her family and grandchildren.
Elsie was predeceased by Edward, her husband of 56 years, and her sisters Egina Melo and Ida Battaglia. She is survived by her daughter, Mary Anne Cronheim and her husband, Daniel of Watchung; her son, Eugene Kredatus and his wife, Jayne of Bridgewater; her four grandchildren, David and Robert Cronheim and Brian and Megan Kredatus; and her sister Norma Margiotta. Visitation will be held on Thursday, August 4, from 4 to 8pm. Funeral services will be held on Friday, August 5 at 9:00 a.m. at Higgins Home for Funerals, 752 Mountain Blvd. Watchung, followed by a 10:00 a.m. funeral mass at St. Mary's Stony-Hill Church in Watchung. Interment will be at Calvary Cemetery in Paterson. Donations can be made in her name to the Summit Speech School, 705 Central Ave., New Providence, NJ 07974
