Obituary of Lewis H. Ball
Lewis H. Ball, Sr., 97, died suddenly on Monday, October 10, 2011 at the home of his daughter in Plainfield, New Jersey.
Born and raised in Kilmarnok, VA, to the late Levi Ball and Sadie Lewis-Ball, Lewis moved to Manhattan, New York at the age of 19, residing there until 1949 when he moved to Brooklyn, New York.
Prior to his retirement, Lewis had been a self-employed television repairman for many years. He was a hardworking, independent man who always held numerous jobs at the same time to sustain his family.
He enjoyed listening to music, especially Jazz and watching baseball and ballroom dancing. He was also an avid chef.
Lewis was predeceased by his wife, Helen Pooler Ball in 2010. He was also predeceased by his four children, Ruth Ann, Vivian, Donald and Mark Ball and two grandsons, Michael and Lewis.
Surviving to cherish his memory are his five children, Lewis Ball, Jr. and his wife Marcie, Frederick Ball, Helena Joyner and her husband Johnnie, Gerald Ball and his wife Edna and Ronald Ball and his wife Martha; eleven grandchildren, Kevin, Tony, Johnnie, Jr., Gerald, Jr. and his wife Lena, Terrick and his wife Rachel, Jason and his wife, Antoinette, Karmen, Damon and his wife Mai Lyn, Natasha, Nicole and Timothy, his late grandson Michael's wife, Maribel (Madi) and three great grandchildren, Tiffany, Jai LyAnn and Jason, Jr.
Visitation will be held on Friday, October 14 from 11:00 am to 12:30 pm at the Higgins Home for Funerals, 209 West Eighth Street, Plainfield followed by a 12:30 Funeral Service at the funeral home and interment at Rosehill Cemetery in Linden.
