Obituary of Margaret Spencer

Margaret Mary (Peg) Spencer January 8, 1935 - September 4, 2013 Belvidere: Margaret (Peg) Spencer, of Belvidere, NJ passed away on September 4, 2013 at the age of 78 with her sons and daughter by her side. She was born in New York City on January 8, 1935 to Welsh and Irish immigrants, Daniel Mahoney and Mary Cunningham. Early on the family moved to Chatham, NJ where Peg was raised. She married Richard James Spencer, also of Chatham and eventually moved to North Plainfield, NJ where she lived most of her adult life. She finally settled in Belvidere, NJ to be near family. Peg had a long and rewarding career as a teacher's assistant with the Center School of Central NJ, an educational facility for special needs children. Always active, she had a flair for home decoration, enjoyed antiques refinishing and was an avid gardner. Peg leaves behind her beloved son, Wayne Spencer and his fiancé, RoseMarie; daughter, Daryl Spencer; son Craig Spencer and his wife, Dorothy and adored grandson, Elijah James. She was the dear sister of Teri Mahoney Weber and husband, Walter Weber of Grosse Pointe Shores, Michigan. Visitation will be on Friday from 2-4 & 7-9 pm at Higgins Home for Funerals, 752 Mountain Blvd., Watchung. Contact funeral home for Mass information. Cremation is private.
