Dr. Stanley Bloom, 87, died Saturday, October 22, at his home in Bridgewater, NJ. Born and raised in Plainfield, he moved to Bridgewater in 1976. Dr. Bloom graduated from Plainfield High School, received a BS degree from Rutgers University in New Brunswick and then a PhD degree from Yale University. He was employed as a theoretical research physicist for RCA Laboratories in Princeton for over 30 years. Dr. Bloom was very active in Jewish education in Plainfield where he served on the board of the Plainfield Hebrew Institute. In 1966, while on a sabbatical with his family in England, he discovered that his family tree included numerous British roots. This year abroad began a 40-year excursion into the research of his genealogy which was historically documented in "The Szklaniewicz Family Tree." He was able to archive the existence and relationships of more than 2,100 descendants of whom 1,600 were still living. The lives of these people are intertwined in the stories told in the "Tree", and many of the relatives met for the first time during one of several family reunions held in the Catskills and in Israel. Surviving are his wife of 63 years, Miriam Finkel Bloom; his four children, David Bloom of Manhattan, Deborah Hercky of Martinsville, Michael Bloom of Chester Twp., PA, and Jonathan Bloom of Fairfax Station, VA; seven grandchildren, and two sisters, Sylvia Anklowitz of FL, and Marilyn Vos of Franklin Twp. Funeral Services will be held on Sunday, October 23, at 11 am, at the Higgins Home for Funerals, 209 West Eighth Street, Plainfield, with Rabbi Moshe Samber officiating followed by internment at Beth Israel Cemetery in Woodbridge.
