Obituary of Joseph F. Fennelly

Joseph F. Fennelly, 73 of Martinsville, died Tuesday, November 22 at his home surrounded by his family. Born in Somerville, MA, he resided in Burlington, MA before moving here 38 years ago. Joe retired in 1992 after 20 years as Division Manager of Internal Auditing at AT&T, Murray Hill. Previous to, and after his retirement, he traveled the world for Covenant House in New York as Audit and Accounts Manager for 10 years. He truly loved and cherished the time he spent here trying to make a difference in the lives of young people. He received a Bachelors's degree in Accounting from Boston College. Joe served in the US Marine Corp Reserves for 6 years. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council # 5959 in Martinsville. His infant son, Christopher predeceased him in 1968. Surviving are his wife of 51 years, Ann M. Murphy Fennelly; two sons, Mark Fennelly of Alexandria and Rick Fennelly of Stewartsville; two daughters, Meg DiFrancesco of Scotch Plains and Ginny Wershonski of Stewartsville; a sister, Anne Swadel of Salem, NH and 12 grandchildren. A Mass of Resurrection will be offered on Saturday, November 26 at 9:30 am at St. Mary's Stony Hill Church in Watchung followed by interment at Holy Cross Cemetery in Basking Ridge. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory to Covenant House, Times Square Station, P.O. Box 731, New York, NY 10108 would be deeply appreciated. Arrangements are under the direction of Higgins Home for Funerals, 752 Mountain Blvd., Watchung.
