Obituary of George Michael Furino
George Michael Furino, age 66, passed away peacefully at home on January 14, 2012.
George was born in Plainfield, New Jersey to the late John Frank Furino and Mary Wood Furino. He was the youngest of 8 siblings. He attended Plainfield High School and graduated in 1963. George served in the US Army 1st Calvary and served in Vietnam in 1966-1967.
George lived in Martinsville, Bridgewater, Annandale, Basking Ridge, Whitehouse Station, and Flemington, New Jersey. He was Co-Owner of Furino and Sons, Inc., a construction firm, and most recently was elected Chairman of the Board.
George devoted his life to spending time with his family especially during the summer at his home in Toms River, New Jersey. He also enjoyed golfing and looked most forward to being with his grandchildren. Above all, his family came first. He was a kind, loving, gentle person who had a charismatic personality and was loved and respected by all who knew him.
George was a former member of Stanton Ridge Country Club, Raritan Valley Country Club and PGA National in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida. He was also a member of Elks Lodge #1068 of Somerville and a life member of VFW, Post 6588 of Martinsville since 1970.
George leaves behind to cherish his memory, his beloved wife, Shirley Ann Vickers Furino, with whom he joined hands in marriage 42 years ago. His three cherished sons, George Gregory and wife Christine; son Randy and wife Rachael; son TJ; grandchildren John, George, Michael, Olivia, and Peri. George was preceded in death by his oldest brother, John J. Furino and wife Rose Rado. Also surviving are his siblings, Margaret Smonig (late husband Conrad); Mary Primiano and her husband, Oliver; Genevieve Del Duca and her husband, Ralph; Helen Giesler and her husband, Francis; Thomas Furino and his wife Rosaria; and Alfred Furino and his wife, Carol.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend visitation at Higgins Home for Funerals, 752 Mountain Blvd. in Watchung on Wednesday, January 18, 2012 from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. A Mass of Resurrection will be on Thursday, January 19, 2012 at St. Mary's Stony Hill Church, 225 Mountain Blvd. in Watchung at 11:00 a.m.
