Obituary of Robert Salvin

Dunellen: Robert Salvin, 85, son of the late Aaron and Anna Salvin, died on Saturday, February 4, 2012 at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick. Born in Bronx, NY, he was a lifelong Dunellen resident. He began his career as a Project Engineer for US Gypsum Company in Clark from 1949-1952. In 1952, he became Chief Facilities Engineer at Johnson and Johnson, New Brunswick, working there until his retirement. Robert received a BS degree in Mechanical engineering from Rutgers' University. As a graduate and active alumni, he was very involved as President of the class of 1949 and as a member of the President's Council, organizing fundraisers, class activities and reunions. Mr. Salvin served in the US Navy during WW II as an Electronic Technician's Mate 2nd Class. He subsequently served as Americanism Officer for 10 years for the Dunellen American Legion Post #119. He was responsible for overseeing the Americanism program in the Dunellen school system. Bob was also responsible for erecting monuments in Dunellen in honor of Veterans. The WWII monument, which lists all servicemen from the Dunellen area who served during that War and the Korean and Vietnam War monument are both located in Washington Park in Dunellen. There is also a monument at the Rutgers' University library, which Robert was responsible for, in honor of the Veteran's who served in his class. Surviving are his sister, Beatrice Salvin of Dunellen and many family and friends. Funeral Services will be held on Monday, February 6, 2012 at 11:30 am at Higgins Home For Funerals, 752 Mountain Blvd., Watchung, followed by the interment at Beth Israel Mem. Park Cemetery in Woodbridge.
