Obituary of Glenn D. Tewes

Glenn D. Tewes, age 84, died on Tuesday, March 6, 2012 at his home in Plainfield. He was born in CA and grew up in Hillside, NJ and had lived in Plainfield since 1966. Mr. Tewes served in the Merchant Marine until 1950 when he was drafted into the US Army and served during the Korean War where he won the Bronze Star for valor. Prior to his retirement in 1987, he was a Watch Engineer for Bell Labs in Murray Hill for more than 30 years. Mr. Tewes was a member of the I.B.EW. and was an avid golfer and a NY Rangers fan. He is predeceased by his wife, Catherine (Howard) Tewes in 1993. Surviving are his sons, David Tewes of Cliffwood Beach and Daniel Tewes of WY; his daughters, Gayle Tewes of Plainfield, Elizabeth O'Leary and her husband, Robert of Long Pond, PA, Julianne Porter of Dunellen, Mary Catherine Tewes of Dunellen and his daughter-in-law, Laura Tewes of Dunellen; his grandchildren, Colleen, Megan, Kirsten, Haley, Devin, Lindsay, Carly, Faith, Robert, Liam, Colin, Jennifer and Dylan,. He is also survived by his great-grandchildren, Jordan and Lucas and one more expected any day. Funeral services will be held on Friday, March 9th at 11:00 a.m. at Higgins Home for Funerals, 209 West 8th Street, Plainfield. Cremation is private. Visitation will be on Thursday from 2-4 & 7-9 pm.
