Obituary of Alfred Rebmann

Alfred Rebmann, age 82, died on Sunday, May 13, 2012, at Haven Hospice at JFK Hospital in Edison. Born in the Ukraine, he grew up on his family's farm in Potoki, Poland. In 1945, his family fled to Germany, eventually moving to the United States in 1951, he resided in Plainfield, South Plainfield and Watchung for 34 years. Prior to retiring in 1985, Alfred was a supervisor with Harris Structural Steel Co., in South Plainfield, he was instrumental in helping to build the Verrazano-Narrows Bridge and Twin Towers. Alfred was a member of St. Mary's Stony Hill Church, a member of the Optimist Club of Watchung, Gesang-und Turn Verein in North Plainfield and the Deutscher Club of Clark. In his spare time he enjoyed gardening, socializing, reading and was an animal lover, especially horses and his dog Daisey. Predeceased by his daughter Sylvia Malchow in 1994 and his son Edward Rebmann in 2004 Surviving is his loving wife of 57 years, Helen (Klemm) Rebmann; his son Wilhelm Rebmann and his wife Nina of Haddonfield, NJ; 8 grandchildren Jennifer, Paul, Mark, John, James, Joe, Andreas and Erik; sisters Vera Dec and Dana Lorenz and her husband Dr. Roman Lorenz; two step-brothers Dr. Max Lorenz and Dr. Peter Lorenz; son-in-law Fred Malchow . A funeral service will be held on Thursday, May 17th at 9:00 a.m. at Higgins Home for Funerals, 752 Mountain Blvd., Watchung followed by a 10:00 a.m. Mass of Resurrection at St. Mary's Stony Hill RC Church, Watchung. Entombment will follow at St. Mary's Stony Hill Cemetery, Watchung.
