Obituary of Ray Abernathy

Ray Abernathy was born on June 1, 1936 in Lincolnton, North Carolina to the late Alda and Gray Abernathy. He departed this life on May 23, 2012 due to his declining health for several years. He was in Norwood Terrace Nursing Home when he passed away. Ray graduated high school and one year of college in Bronx, New York. He worked for the Port Authority for 23 years. Ray was a loyal and faithful member of United Church of Christ Congregational in Plainfield, and he was very proud when he Ushered people down to their seats, although he walked with a cane. Ray also loved the Senior Center in Plainfield. He attended drama class and was in many plays. His biggest pleasure was to go fishing with his friends. Ray leaves to cherish fond memories, his wife, Erma Abernathy; stepson, Tyrone Ross; his brother, Charles Abernathy and his wife in Iowa; nieces, nephews and many cousins in North Carolina; sister in laws, Laura Carey and Lois Hicks; niece and nephews in laws, Daniel Woodson, Vaughn Hicks, Arthur Woodson, Mark Woodson and Gloria Johnson; and his grandchildren, Marcus Ross and Chyann Hicks.
