Obituary of Violetta Josephine DuPont

Violetta Josephine Pollara DuPont, 100, passed away Friday, June 8, 2012 at Berkeley Heights Nursing & Convalescent Center after suffering a stroke on May 8th. Born in Brooklyn and raised in Lyndhurst, Violetta resided in Watchung since 1967. Prior to retiring, she was employed as a typist at Western Electric in both NY and NJ and served an active role as Secretary and Office Manager of Thermoplastic Processes in Stirling, NJ from 1948 until the early 60's. Opera, music and her piano were her life. She sang and participated in many recitals and won the Atwater Kent Vocal Competition. She particularly enjoyed singing for the residents at VA Hospitals. In 1987 she co-founded Opera at Florham in residence at Fairleigh Dickinson University in Madison, NJ. Violetta inspired and motivated so many people and was blessed with so many wonderful and caring friends. In addition, she instilled her love of gardening to all of her children. Violetta's 100th birthday , April 7, 2012 was proclaimed Violetta DuPont Day by Mayor Gerald Mobus and the Borough Council. She was able to attend and enjoy the 23rd Annual Violetta DuPont Vocal Competition held in her honor this past April 28th at Lendfell Hall at FDU. She was predeceased in 1991 by her husband of 58 years, James M. DuPont. Her siblings, Roosevelt "Rube" Pollara, Iris Faulconer, Dr. Luigi Z. Pollara, Margaret Cardillo, Rose Liberti, and Dr. Frank Pollara her two grandsons, Joseph Russel DuPont and Joseph Richard DuPont and her great grandson, Patrick Parisi all predeceased her. Surviving are her children; Richard DuPont of St. George, UT, Paul Robert DuPont of Newton, NJ, Marietta Margurite Alitz of Newcomb,NY, Claudette Helene Ginsburg of Matawan,NJ and Joseph Rene DuPont of Towanda, PA; a brother, Paul Zummo Pollara of South Plainfield, 12 grandchildren and 24 great grandchildren. Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, June 16 at 2:00 pm at the Higgins Home for Funerals, 752 Mountain Blvd., Watchung. Visitation will be held on Friday from 2-4 & 7-9 pm. Cremation private. Burial of cremated remains will be held at a time and date to be announced at St. Andrew's Episcopal Church in New Providence. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to Opera at Florham, P. O. Box 343, Convent Station, N.J., 07961.
