Obituary of Hugh M. Murphy

Hugh McNeil Murphy, age 83, passed away on Tuesday, June 26, 2012 at the Somerset Valley Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in Bound Brook, N.J, surrounded by his loving wife and devoted family. He was born in Staten Island, N.Y. on August 15, 1928 to his dear parents Alonzo E. and Harriet B. Murphy. Hugh attended Port Richmond High School and Wagner College, Staten Island. He was an appliance salesman for Sears, Roebuck & Co. for over 46 years. He worked in the Staten Island Sears Store and in the Somerville Circle Sears Store from the time it opened in 1957 until it closed in 1992; then he retired. He was a devoted husband, loving father, wonderful grandfather and a good provider. Hugh was a private pilot and enjoyed flying for many years. He also enjoyed swimming, dancing and music. He was a kind and caring man and will be sadly missed by all who knew him. Hugh is survived by his beloved wife of 56 years Sue (Wehrlen) Murphy, his loving daughter Susan Murphy-Flynn of Chester, N.J. and her two daughters Kelly Flynn and Rachel Flynn and his brother James W. Murphy of Long Island. He is also survived by his sister-in-law Janet Moeller and brother-in-law David Moeller of Martinsville and many nieces and nephews. A visitation will be held on Friday, June 29th from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. at Higgins Home for Funerals, 752 Mountain Blvd., Watchung, N.J. A Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, June 30th starting with a visitation from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. followed by an 11:00 a.m. service. Interment will follow at Holy Redeemer Cemetery, South Plainfield, N.J. "Forever in our Hearts"
