Obituary of John Donald Silva
John Donald Silva, age 83, died on Tuesday, July 3, 2012 at Morristown Memorial Hospital in Morristown. He was born and raised in Staten Island, NY and had lived in Warren since 1972.
Mr. Silva served in the US Army at the Army General's Headquarters in Tokyo as an honor guard for General Douglas MacArthur. He was discharged in 1948 and was a member of the General MacArthur Honor Guard Association.
He received his Bachelor's Degree from Wagner College where he belonged to the Delta Nu Fraternity and played football for 4 years on the Wagner team. He was very active in sports and played on local softball, baseball and football teams. He enjoyed watching the NY Giants and the Yankees.
Mr. Silva was a communicant of Blessed Sacrament Church in Martinsville.
Prior to his retirement in 1994, he was an Expeditor for Schering Plough in Kenilworth for 24 years.
Mr. Silva is survived by his wife, Marie Hellweg Silva; his son, Kevin M. Silva and his daughter, Deborah A. Silva.
Funeral services will begin on Friday, July 6th at 9:00 a.m. at Higgins Home for Funerals, 752 Mountain Blvd., Watchung followed by a 10:00 a.m. funeral Mass at Blessed Sacrament Church, Martinsville. Interment will be at St. Mary's Cemetery, Staten Island. Visitation will be on Thursday from 2-5 pm.
