Obituary of Robert E. Schorr
After a long courageous battle with COPD and emphysema, Robert Eaton Schorr of Warren Township, NJ died at his home on September 30, 2013.
Born in Elizabeth, NJ to Walter and Jane Schorr, Robert was raised in Hillside, NJ. He attended the Pingry School of Elizabeth, before graduating from Hillside High School and Union County Vocational Institute of Mountainside. In 1970, when he married Lucile Natalie Nicotera of Union, NJ, they lived in Springfield, before establishing their family in Warren in 1975. He was a skilled and greatly respected tool and die maker with Hammer Manufacturing, Linden, NJ. Robert was later a top level manufacturing engineer for many years with Ohaus Scale Corporation in Hanover until he retired in 2007. For several years, Robert was also part-owner of Sicam Manufacturing in Hillsborough.
For many years he was a dedicated and conscientious member of the Shongum Sports Association and the N.R.A. He was also an enthusiast of camping, skiing, trains, American history, cars, and traveling - especially throughout the New England states.
Robert was a loving husband to Lucille, devoted father of Robert D. Schorr and wife Emily of Somerville, Anthony W. and his wife Lindsay of Bound Brook. He was also the cherished PopPop of Abigail and Madeline, who very wisely assured him not to worry because "the clouds in heaven are made of cotton candy."
He was also the caring brother-in-law of Larry Nicotera of Ortley Beach and cousins Ned and Marie Scannell of South Bound Brook. He will also be greatly missed by his adoring pets, Sammi and Sophie.
Visitation will be from 2-4 and 7-9 on Friday, October 4th at Higgins Home for Funerals, 752 Mountain Blvd., Watchung, NJ 07069. In lieu of flowers, kindly make donations to the compassionate and dedicated caregivers at Atlantic Hospice Care, 465 South Street, Morristown, NJ 07960.
