Obituary of Gerard Richard Flaherty

Gerard Richard Flaherty, age 81, died on Monday, October 7th, 2013 at his home in Warren. Born and raised in Elizabeth, he resided in North Plainfield before moving to Warren forty-seven years ago. He graduated from Jefferson High School in Elizabeth and attended Seton Hall University in South Orange. Jerry was a very proud Korean War Veteran having served in the United States Army. Prior to retiring he was a Production Control Manager with Hudson Tool & Die Company in Newark. He was a member of Our Lady of the Mount Church, Warren and was active with the Knights of Columbus. Jerry was a classic car enthusiast and enjoyed spending time at the Jersey Shore with his boat. He loved to travel and especially take cruises. Most of all, he was very proud of his family. Predeceased by his first wife Virginia Flaherty in 1999. Surviving is his wife Judith Fitzgerald Flaherty; his daughters Mary LoGiudice and her husband Mark of Moorestown and Susan Federici and her husband William of Upper Makefield Twp., PA; step-sons Scott Fitzgerald and his wife Janet of Basking Ridge and Steven Fitzgerald and his wife Cindy of Norwalk, CT; step-daughter Nancy D'Amato and her husband Anthony of Warren; grandchildren Nick and Jim Federici, Molly and Madeline LoGiudice, Alyson, Emily and Nicole Fitzgerald, Kara and Julia Fitzgerald and Matthew and Megan D'Amato. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, October 10th, 2013 at 9:30 a.m. at Higgins Home for Funerals, 752 Mountain Blvd., Watchung followed by a Mass of Resurrection at 10:30 a.m. at Our Lady of the Mount Church, Warren. Interment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery, Basking Ridge. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, October 9th, from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. Donations can be made in his name to: Wounded Warrior Project, PO BOX 758517, Topeka, KS 66675.
