Obituary of Panagis Angelos Giakoumatos

Panagis Angelos Giakoumatos, age 86, died on Thursday, July 16, 2015 at Overlook Hospital in Summit. He was born in Argostoli on the island of Kefalonia, Greece. He attended Athens Maritime College and was a Merchant Marine for 15 years in Denmark. He met his wife in 1968 and they married in 1969 and settled in New York for 30 years before moving to Warren 14 years ago. He began his career at H.R. Schrier and he owned a distributing company in Queens. Mr. Giakoumatos was a member of St. George Greek Orthodox Church. Surviving are his wife of 46 years, Loula Menegatos Giakoumatos; his sons, Nicholas Giakoumatos and his wife, Ronnie, Lefterios Giakoumatos and Gerasimos Giakoumatos; his sister, Ismini Kantonoleon and his grandchildren, Angelina, Demetra and Peter. Visitation will be held on Sunday, July 19th from 4 to 9 p.m. at Higgins Home for Funerals, 752 Mountain Blvd., Watchung. Funeral services will begin on Monday, July 20th at 10:30 a.m. followed by an 11:30 a.m. funeral service at St. George Greek Orthodox Church, Piscataway. Interment will be at Bound Brook Cemetery.
