Obituary of Frederick William Letter
Frederick William Letter, age 74, died on Tuesday, November 10th, 2015 at his home in Bedminster, NJ. Born in Plainfield, Mr. Letter was a proud graduate of North Plainfield High School in 1959.
Fred began his professional years as an employee of the Courier News before moving on to a career in real estate. He was a founding partner in Letter-Pompilio Century 21, in Plainfield before moving on to a career in commercial real estate with Jeffrey Realty.
Mr. Letter's life-passion was sport. He was a fan of all... but in his youth excelled as a semi-pro basketball player as well as a fast-pitch softball pitcher. His greatest athletic accomplishments however came on a racquetball court. He was a world-ranked player, winning numerous singles and doubles titles... most recently a National Doubles champion in July 2014. Since 2012 he's taken up frisbee with his cherished 3-legged canine pal, Nicky.
Surviving are his loving companion Sarah Sockolof ; his daughters: Jaime Letter and Jennifer Letter as well as three granddaughters: Willa Stieler, Julianne and Violet Bucsku. Also surviving are his two sons-in-law, Erik Stieler and Tom Bucsku and his former wife Kathleen Smythe.
Visitation will be held at Higgins Home for Funerals, 752 Mountain Blvd. in Watchung, on Friday, November 13th from 4 to 8pm. A funeral service will be held on Saturday at 10:30 am, also at Higgins with the internment to follow at Springdale United Methodist Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Humane Society or the New Jersey Racquetball Youth Development Program.
