Feb. 17, 2016,
Pete, Mike, & Jim;
I am saddened to have read of your father's passing. I just read this in an e-mail I received while away from the country on vacation.
I usually read the obits daily but being away I have not kept up.
Your father was a one-of-a-kind guy, who was very good to all the Runyons. We are better off for knowing him and your mother over my formative years. There are so many things that were good that occurred between Walter G. and your father it is difficult to list them all.
Please accept my deepest sympathies. Our parents were great friends and meant the world to each other, and everyone's success was helped by people like JPT.

John Townley was of those natural leaders who would take charge when others stood by. HIs sense of honor, order, and justice pervaded all of the activities in which I participated with him. He was Mr. Senior Softball in South Florida, and he made the game grow as a powerful incentive to those of us who may have thought that life was over after the age of sixty.
I was proud to be one of his team mates for several years!

I would like to extend my heartfelt condolences to the family on the loss of your loved one. May God almighty, father of tender mercies and all comfort continue to strengthen you all (2 Corinthians 1:3,4). How eager we all are to see the fulfillment of Gods promise to completely remove death, tears, mourning, outcry and pain (Revelation 21:4). The Bible also provides assurance of the resurrection hope for our dead loved ones (John 5:25). May these promises from God bring you comfort. You can learn more about Gods purposes at www.jw.org

My condolences to all of the Townley family. After reading the obit, I can see that your family patriarch was “one heck of a guy” and will certainly be missed. It is a blessing to you all to have had him as a part of your life for so many years.

Mike,
Your father was clearly a great man! His service to our country and the several communities he lived in was constant and extraordinary! I can now see that you are clearly following in his footsteps. He, and you, are great role models for the rest of us. He has gone to rest in a good place. I know you will miss him, but you will never forget him. His legacy lives on!

Dear Townley Family,
In 1981 I was employed with the City of Deerfield Beach as their athletic supervisor and had the great opportunity to work with John on a daily basis with the over 50 softball league. John was truly a professional in all senses of the word...he made the over 50 league a respected one throughout the state. John developed the league as well as tournaments that brought the "seniors" to our fine city.
During our time working together (I left the city in 1999) I certainly got to know Gloria who was by his side all the way. A wonderful women. Obviously over the years I lost contact...but am glad to learn he and Gloria spent time with their NJ family as they were always in conversations with me. John and Gloria were very proud of their family.
My prayers will be with both Gloria and John...

I wish to express my condolences to the Townley family at the passing of a great man. He worked many years with my father on the Plainfield Fire Department. At my father's passing he served as a mentor to me and influenced me greatly to pursue a career in the fire service. As a retired career chief officer with 31 years and serving as a volunteer in several departments throughout my life, I often thought of Chief Townley and how he helped to shape my life. May he rest in peace.

I was so sorry to hear about your Dad. Such a great guy! Remembering him at "917 Putnam Ave", I was always in awe of his uniform and thought he was more important than the president. Think of that house and how well it has held up, amazing considering how Plfd. has gone down hill. Lots and lots of memories for all of you. May the memories of both your parents and childhood help you to support each other in this sad time. Much love from 60+ years ago,
Sincerely,
Kathie Bowers Verse
