Obituary of Anthony John Wood
Anthony J. Wood, 76, passed away peacefully on Monday, February 15, 2016 with his family and dear friend by his side.
Anthony was born March 8, 1939 and graduated from Plainfield High School in 1957. He was a decorated Marine Corps Veteran, serving both in the Far and Middle East. After his U.S.M.C. discharge, he pursued his formal education entering Monmouth College in 1961. He received an Associates Degree in Fine Arts, a Bachelors of Science Degree in Business Administration, as well as a Degree in Psychology.
Anthony began his business career at J.B.Williams Pharmaceuticals Company where he held the position of Director of Materials Management. In 1981, Anthony took a leap of faith and pursued his dream of opening a restaurant. Lily Greenleaves Restaurant and Lounge in Plainfield, N.J. became quite successful, serving great food with top-notch entertainment. But even more valuable were the lasting friendships and memories that were formed. After twenty years in the restaurant business, Anthony retired.
Throughout his retirement Anthony enjoyed cooking, painting, and authored the book, “The East Enders”, which is about growing up Italian in the 50’s. His second book, “When Everything is Going Right, Something is Wrong” has yet to be published.
Anthony is survived by his wife Gail, two daughters Donna Wood King (Tracy) and Patricia Wood Refinski (Joe), his grandchildren, Sasha, Zachary, and Eric, his sister Irene Dubiel, two brothers Michael Wood and Robert Wood, nieces, nephews, and his life long friend, Tucker. He will be deeply missed by all.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, February 18th, 2:00-7:00 pm at “Higgins Home for Funerals”, 752 Mountain Blvd, Watchung, N.J. with a “Celebration of Life” Service to follow at 7:00 pm.
