Obituary of Rochelle Glaser Freedman
Rochelle "Shelly" Glaser Freedman, age 79, died on Friday, November 22, 2013 at Center for Hope Hospice in Scotch Plains. She was born and raised in Milwaukee, Wisconsin and had lived in Chicago, Scotch Plains, and Baton Rouge before moving back to Scotch Plains.
She received her Bachelor's Degree in Education from Northwestern University in 1956 and her Master's Degree from Seton Hall in 1977.
Mrs. Glaser Freedman was the school librarian for the Milltown Board of Education for 20 years. After her retirement, she worked for Classic Thyme Cooking School in Westfield for 14 years.
She was a member of Temple Sholom for over 40 years , was on the Temple Board and a member of the Hadassah. She founded Women on Our Own Organization at the Temple.
She was a member and past president of the Organization for Rehab through Training (ORT) of Plainfield, the Milltown Education Association and the Middlesex County Education Association. She was a Girl Scout and Brownie leader for many years and served on the Scotch Plains PTA and was a Court Representative for the Board of Trustees for Southwyck Village. She participated in many book clubs.
Mrs. Glaser Freedman is predeceased by her husband, Julian in 2001.
Surviving are her daughters, Judith Kravitz and her husband, Kenny and Cindy Weiss and her husband, Michael; her brother, Gerald Granof of Encino, CA and her sister of Elaine Barson of Chicago, IL. She is also survived by her 6 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held on Sunday, November 24th at 11:30 a.m. at Higgins Home for Funerals followed by interment at Mount Lebanon Cemetery in Woodbridge.
