Obituary of Marian Heom
Marian Owens Heom Software engineer, sang in the temple choir Marian "Smarian" Owens Heom, 63, of Warren, N.J., died on Thursday, Sept. 1, 2016. Marian was born in Union, N.J., and grew up in New Providence, N.J.
She attended Brown University, where she was one of only a few women to earn a bachelor's degree in computer science in 1975. She moved to Boston, where she met her husband, Jim. Her two children were born in Boston and she and her family moved to Warren in 1986. Marian enjoyed a fulfilling career as a software engineer. She was an integral member of Temple Har Shalom for 30 years and sang in the choir. She enjoyed playing Mahjong, watching baseball, and casinos. She loved teaching Mahjong to others and created many friendships while doing so.
Surviving are her loving husband of 36 years, Jim Heom; her daughter, Diana (Katie Marston), and son, Andy (Daniela Ardizzone); her brother, Henry Owens (Bonnie); her sister, Susan Owens (Laura Medvitz); her father, Wolf Owens; her nieces, Liana and Cailin Owens. She is also survived by her granddog, Lulu. She was predeceased by her mother, Ella Owens; cat, Tom; and grandcat, Micio.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 7, at Temple Har Shalom.
