Obituary of Andrew C. Van Jura

Andrew C. Van Jura, age 82, died on Monday, December 2, 2013 at Overlook Hospital in Summit. He was born in Bayonne and had lived in Warren since April of 1964. Mr. Van Jura was a Freight & Ticket Agent for Central Jersey Transit for 42 years. He retired from NJ Transit and also worked for Conrail. He was a door attendant for Higgins Home for Funerals for over 10 years. He served with the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary Flotilla 4-6. Mr. Van Jura was an active Communicant of Our Lady of the Mount Church where he was an usher and counter. He was a life member of the Watchung Elks Post # 2252 where he started their first softball team. He won a Presidential Award for Physical Fitness. He also served as a member of the Board of Trustees for the TCIU Union Lodge # 1475 which he retired from in 1995. He is predeceased by his wife, Barbara M. Van Jura in 1997. Surviving are his faithful companion , Audrey Heintze; his sons, Andrew C. Van Jura, Jr. and his wife, Celeste , Jeffrey S. Van Jura and his wife, Victoria, Paul M. Van Jura and his wife, Joanne and Peter Van Jura and his wife, Jeanne; his daughter, Kathleen M Szakacs and her husband, Steve. He is also survived by his 6 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will begin on Friday, December 6th at 9:30 a.m. at Higgins Home for Funerals, 752 Mountain Blvd., Watchung followed by a 10:30 a.m. Mass of Resurrection at Our Lady of the Mount Chapel. Entombment will be at Holy Cross Cemetery, North Arlington. Visitation will be on Wednesday from 7-9 pm and Thursday from 2-4 & 7-9.
