Obituary of Charles Garabo
Dr. Charles Garabo, age 88, passed away on Saturday, October 1, 2016 at his home in Warren surrounded by his family. Born in Jersey City, Dr. Garabo had resided in Italy while attending medical school at the University of Padova, and in South Plainfield for 20 years before moving to Warren in 1987.
Dr. Garabo proudly served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. After graduating medical school he completed his psychiatric residency at Marlboro State Hospital in NJ. He began his career at Muhlenberg Hospital. Dr. Garabo had worked as a staff physician for 25 years with PSE&G in Newark prior to his retirement.
Dr. Garabo had many hobbies, he loved woodworking, making wine, baking bread and making homemade sausage, a skill he learned early on as butcher in his family's business. He was a master wordsmith and had a wonderful sense of humor but his greatest joy was spending time with his family especially his late wife Teresa who passed in 2014.
He is survived by; two sons Dr. James Garabo (Gail) and their children Carly, Gianna, Grace, Julia and Sophia; Dr. Paul Garabo (Kim) and their children Charlie, Christian and Lucas; a daughter Gabriella (Brenda).
Visitation will be held on Thursday at Higgins Home for Funerals, 752 Mountain Blvd., Watchung, NJ from 6-9 p.m. A funeral mass will be held on Friday at 10:00 a.m. at Blessed Sacrament RC Church in Martinsville. Interment will follow at St. Mary's Stony Hill Cemetery in Watchung.
