Obituary of John Joseph Harris

John J. Harris, Jr. Warren: John J. Harris, Jr. age 93, died on Wednesday, October 26, 2016 in Bridgewater, NJ. Born November 26, 1922 in Jersey City, NJ, he resided in Plainfield for 34 years before moving to Warren 20 years ago. After serving in World War II with the Merchant Marines he earned his Physical Education degree from Seton Hall University in 1949. John was the Chief of Recreation at the V.A. Hospital, Lyons, NJ until his retirement in 1987. An avid sports fan, he loved attending his grandchildrens' games and many rounds of golf. He also loved reading and gardening. He will be sadly missed by his wife of 63 years, Agnes McCahill Harris; his 8 children, William Harris, Mary Harris, Helen Kelly and her husband, Robert, James Harris, Regina Kisling and her husband, Judson, Bernadette Mulkerin and her husband, John, Claire Doran and her husband, Terrence and John J. Harris, III and his wife, Susannah; his 16 grandchildren, Brian and Matthew Kelly, Kayla and Laura Harris, Erin Bloodworth, Ciaran Way, Patrick and Carolyn Kisling, Shauna, Bridget and Kathleen Mulkerin, Julia and Michael Doran and Caroline, Jack and Avery Harris. He is also survived by his 2 great-grandchildren, McKenna and James Bloodworth. Visitation will be on Sunday, October 30th from 3 to 7 at Higgins Home for Funerals, 752 Mountain Blvd., Watchung. Funeral services will begin on Monday at 9:30 am at the funeral home followed by a 10:30 am Mass of Resurrection at Our Lady of the Mount Chapel. Interment will be at Holy Cross Cemetery in Basking Ridge.
