Obituary of Samuel Bush Barnes
Samuel Bush Barnes, age 94, died on Monday, November 28, 2016, at Morristown Memorial Hospital in Morristown. Born in Jersey City, he grew up in Maplewood before moving to Florham Park and lived in Millington for 63 years.
Samuel served in the South Pacific with the Marines during World War II and served with the National Guard for twenty years. Samuel received his BA from Dartmouth University. He worked as a group insurance salesman for Prudential Insurance in Morristown, retiring in 1980.
Samuel was an active member of the Millington Baptist Church in Millington for 60 years. He enjoyed boating and spending summers at his home on Culvers Lake in NJ. He loved spending time with his family and will be deeply missed.
Predeceased by his brother James T. Barnes
Survived by his loving wife of 68 years, Mary Louise Woodman Barnes; his sons Lee Barnes and his wife Linda, Ronald Barnes and his wife Cheri; his daughters Kathryn Jordan and her husband Steve, Maryann Walsh and her husband James and Karyn Diamond and her husband Art; 14 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.
A visitation will be held on Wednesday, November 30, 2016 from 4-8 p.m. at Higgins Home for Funerals, 752 Mountain Blvd., Watchung. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, December 1, 2016 at 10 a.m. at Millington Baptist Church, Millington. Entombment will follow at Somerset Hills Memorial Park, Basking Ridge.
