Obituary of Alice May Givens
Alice May Strotz Givens, 95, of Andover, passed away Wednesday, December 14 at home.
Alice was raised in Philadelphia and spent most of her life in Colwyn, PA, Scotch Plains, NJ, and Surfside Beach, SC.
She was pre-deceased by her husband of 73 years, the Rev. John H. Givens. She leaves her children; Ginger Givens and her husband Peter Aragona of Paramus, NJ, Jeanie Bumpus and her husband Bruce of Goffstown, NH, John C. Givens and his wife Cynthea of Andover, MA and Larry Givens and his wife Margaret of Gillette, NJ; thirteen grandchildren and nineteen great grandchildren.
Alice was an elementary school teacher for the North Plainfield , NJ school system.
She was a devoted wife and mother. She loved raising her four children and truly had a servant's heart. Her passion for journaling began as an 11 year old and continued until she was 93. She was very athletic. Her daily regimen included long walks or swims at a pool. Music was always a part of her life, and she took special pleasure in playing hymns on the piano. Her beautiful smile radiated warmth and love.
A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, Dec. 27, 11am at Free Christian Church, 31 Elm St. Andover, MA. She will be laid to rest next to her husband at Lake Nelson Memorial Park, Piscataway, NJ.
