Obituary of Joseph Peter Cummins

Joseph P. Cummins of Somerset, NJ passed away while surrounded by family on January 5, 2016. A native of Newark, NJ, he resided for 50 years in North Plainfield. He was a parishioner of St. Joseph Catholic Church in North Plainfield. Joe graduated from St. Peter's Prep of Jersey City, Columbia University and Newark College of Engineering. He worked with Merck & Company in Rahway for 40 years until his retirement in 1990. Joe was predeceased by his parents Peter and Louise Cummins, brother Captain Peter Cummins, sister Theresa Reilly, daughter Ellen Santaniello (Carl) and grandson Matthew Cummins. Joe is survived by his loving wife Jean (nee Flynn) of 66 years, his children Joe (Marianne) of Dunellen, Bill (Betsy) of Annapolis, MD, Pete (Cathie) of Egg Harbor, Mary of Somerset, Tim (Mary) of Rockville, MD, Jean (Julio) Valencia of North Plainfield, Patty (Ramon) Martinez of Middlesex, John (Laura) of Warrenton, VA, Tom (Kerrie) of Bridgewater, and Maureen (Brian) Ryan of Middlesex, 39 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. Family and friends are invited to a visitation at Higgins Home for Funerals, 752 Mountain Blvd., Watchung on Sunday, January 8th from 2 to 7 pm. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday at 10 am at St. Joseph's Church, corner of Watchung and Jackson, North Plainfield. Burial will be at Resurrection Burial Park, Piscataway, following the funeral.
