Obituary of John F. Bracaglia
John Francis Bracaglia passed away peacefully in his sleep on Saturday, January 14, 2017. John was 89 years old. He is preceded in death by the love of his life, his wife Josephine, to whom he was married for over fifty years, John was also predeceased by his brothers Henry, Angelo and Louis and his grandson Nicholas. John is survived by his brother Paul (Barbara). John is also survived by his sons John (Deborah), Thomas (Wendy) and Paul (Natalie) and his grandchildren, whom he greatly loved, Katie (Matthew), Daniel, Anne, John, Timothy, Thomas, Leshya and Ava.
John was born, at home, to Paul and Jennie Bracaglia on July 5, 1927 in Irvington, N. J. and was proud that he lived most of his life in New Jersey. He was honored to be a veteran, having served in the United States Navy as a radar operator during the Second World War and the Korean conflict. He graduated from Upsala College and the Seton Hall University School of Law. He spent most of his professional life working as an international tax lawyer for Johnson & Johnson in New Brunswick, N.J. This work took him to many parts of the world. He was also community minded, having served as the mayor of Warren from 1968 to 1971 and municipal court judge for Warren from 1973 to 1983. He and Josephine moved from Warren Township to Mantoloking, N.J. in 1982, where they rekindled their love for the shore, having met in Seaside Heights, N.J. in 1944. In addition to his family, John loved playing golf, following the Yankees and the New York Giants, and reading the federal tax code. John will be remembered for his love, kindness, and optimism.
A memorial mass will be held on Saturday, January 21, 2017 at 9:30 a.m. at Our Lady of the Mount Roman Catholic Chapel, 167 Mount Bethel Road, Warren, N.J. 07059. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Daytop Village, Inc., 80 W. Main Street, Mendham, N.J. 07945 or The HMS School for Children with Cerebral Palsy, 4400 Baltimore Avenue, Philadelphia, Pa. 19104.
