Obituary of Lila Velinsky

Lila (Gerson) Velinsky, age 90, passed away on Wednesday, March 8, 2017, at Daughters of Israel in West Orange. Born and raised in Elizabeth, she moved to Plainfield in 1949 and lived there until 1986 when she moved to Hunter’s Run in Boynton Beach, FL. She was a member of Temple Beth El in Plainfield. Mrs. Velinsky enjoyed shopping, golf and tennis and was a master Bridge and Canasta player. She was a member of Twin Brooks Country Club in Watchung. Most of all, she loved spending time with her family. Predeceased by her husband Irving in 1972 who was the Former GOP Chairman of Plainfield and former clerk of the Union County Board of Freeholders and her son Robert Velinsky in 1991. Surviving are her son, David Velinsky and his wife, Susan Johntz, M.D. and her daughter, Ruth Wurgaft and her husband, Jack. Also surviving are her grandchildren, Emily, Matthew, Rebecca, Ian and Emma and her great-grandchildren, Robert, Joshua and Levi. A funeral service will take place on Friday, March 10, 2017 at 12:00 p.m. at Higgins Home for Funerals, 752 Mountain Blvd., Watchung followed by interment at Hebrew Cemetery, South Plainfield.
