Obituary of Mildred M. Basile
Basking Ridge: Mildred M. (Menzel) Basile, age 87, peacefully passed away on Saturday, May 13, 2017, on the 100th Anniversary of Our Lady of Fatima which is fitting as she was very devoted to the Blessed Mother. Born and raised in Jersey City, she had resided in Middlesex, moved back to Jersey City, Toms River for 17 years before moving to Basking Ridge nine years ago.
Mildred was as an excellent homemaker who took pride in caring for her family. She later worked for the Jersey City Board of Education and retired in 1992. She was a member of St. James Church, Basking Ridge and regularly attended Blessed Sacrament Church, Martinsville.
Mildred enjoyed cruising, dancing, fine dining, cooking, shopping, playing the slot machines and was an avid reader. Most of all she loved spending time with her family and friends.
Predeceased by her first husband Louis J. Marsico, her second husband Gaetano “Guy” Basile, her brother Charles Menzel and many lifelong friends.
Survived by her daughters Gwen Marsico, Geralyn Serra and Laura Mertz and her husband Tim; grandchildren Ralph Serra, Gabrielle Serra and Cameron Mertz; many friends, cousins, nieces and nephews.
A visitation will be held on Sunday, May 21, 2017 from 3-7 p.m. at Higgins Home for Funerals, 752 Mountain Blvd., Watchung. Funeral services will begin on Monday, May 22, 2017 at 9 a.m. at the funeral home followed by a 10 a.m. Mass of Resurrection at Blessed Sacrament Church, Martinsville. Entombment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery, Basking Ridge.
