Obituary of Dr. Joshua S. Chow

Dr. Joshua S. Chow, 86, of Warren, NJ, passed away on June 1, 2017 peacefully at his home. 

Visitation will be held at Higgins Home for Funerals on June 4 at 2PM with a service at 4PM.  Reverend Victor Franco of New Providence United Methodist Church officiating. 

Dr. Chow was born in Shanghai, China on November 11, 1930 and first came to the States in 1961. He went on to earn a Master of Business Administration from Cornell University in 1963 and a Doctor of Education from Rutgers University in 1976. He dedicated his career to education, holding leadership positions including President of Union County Technical Institute and Superintendent of Somerville School District. 

He was also actively involved in a number of professional organizations where he served as President of the Association of Business Officials of Union and Somerset Counties, President of the Union County School Administrators, President of NJ Educational Data Systems, and Chairperson of the NJ County Community College Business Officials. 

After retirement, he traveled the world with his wife. He enjoyed listening to classical music and coaxing melodies out of his carpenter’s saw. 

Dr. Chow is survived by Cora, his wife of 54 years, sons James and John, daughter Carolyn, daughters-in-law Dawn and Lori, grandchildren Kara and Lea, and an extended family who will miss him. 

He will be remembered for his principles, integrity, and gentleness. He possessed a unique talent to tell a good story and an uncanny ability to recall surprising details from his many experiences. His infectious laughter filled whichever room he was in and will always fill our hearts.
