Dear Marilyn and family,
Having flown with John many times at AA, and also attending the luncheons, I got to know John and always looked forward to stories and his humor. Many jokes, some I still use! He was one of the good guys, and will be missed.

So sorry to see that DD(Deacon Dill as I called him) has passed away. What a fine he was, just not only to his family, but also to all of us here at Trinity Parish in St. Augustine, FL.
I worked with John at many Services here at Trinity. I remember those Wed. morning bible studies with Fr. David leading and to many insights that DD offered to the group.
God rest his soul.

Getting in the station wagon and going to the dump in Maine in the middle of the night, where John would shine the flashlight so we could all see the bears...
Taking full control of the BBQ in the back yard of Trudy and Bob's with a drink in one hand and the tongs in the other, all the while keeping an eye on us running around in the yard...
Getting us out in the boat on the lake, and making sure we learned how to water ski. He never tired of doing that for us...
Making us all sit still for pictures on the sofa in Trudy and Bob's living room, right before we got ready to leave to go home, our PJs sticking out of our pants for an easy transition to sleep...
Always caring about our grandparents, being there for them, doing for them...
Proud of his son Eric, who he saw a lot of himself in and knew that was OK.
Proud of his son Ronnie, who he didn't see a lot of himself in, but figured out that was OK too.
Head over heels about his daughter Carol, who was to him, perfect. And he was right.
Thankful, and a little stunned, still even when I got to know him, that he had his wife Meg, because how in the world did he ever get so lucky to marry and stay married to such a wonderful, patient, positive and beautiful woman like her.
Oh, and did I forget the joke about the wide mouthed frog???
