Obituary of Anastasia Ballas
Anastasia Ballas, 80, passed away on September 12, 2012, in Athens, Greece. She was born in Upper Darby, Pennsylvania to Greek immigrants, Efthemia Sakkas and Stamatis Papanikolaou. At the age of 10 her father passed away and her mother later remarried to Dennis Christofos, whom had a son, her brother, Jerry Christofos. She graduated from Upper Darby high school and later went on to work in the Philadelphia area before marrying Miltiadies C. Ballas. She and her husband lived in North Plainfield, New Jersey for over fifty years where they tended to their business, Ballas Florist of over sixty years.
Anastasia was an active member of the St. George Greek Orthodox Church in Piscataway for over fifty years. She was a past president of the Ladies Philoptochos and always volunteered for her church's Greek festival. She enjoyed needlepoint, cooking, and most of all spending time and telling stories with her grandchildren, whom all had a very dear and special place in her heart.
She is predeceased by her late brother Jerry and her always loving husband of 53 years, Miltiadies. Surviving are her sons, Christos Ballas M.D, his wife Nicolette, Dennis Ballas and his wife Paige; her daughter Dorothea Koutsoras and her husband George; her six grandchildren Nicholas, Paul, Constance, and Stephen Ballas and Dimitri and Annamaria Koutsoras.
Viewing will be held at Higgins Home For Funerals, 752 Mountain Boulevard, Watchung, NJ on Monday, September 17, 2012 from 2-4 and 7-9.
Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, September 18, 2012 at 10 am at Saint George Greek Orthodox Church, Piscataway, NJ. Interment to follow at Bound Brook Cemetery.
