Obituary of Russell Hawke
Dayton: Russell F. Hawke, age 74, died on Friday, December 8, 2017 at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick. Mr. Hawke was born in Dover and was raised there and in Newark. He later resided in Union, before moving to Dayton in 1965.
Mr. Hawke served in the United States Army as a Military Police Officer in Korea for one year. Prior to his retirement, he was very proud to be a N.J. State Trooper from 1965 to 1985. He worked in both the Detective Bureau and the Narcotics Division. After his retirement, Mr. Hawke worked for Blue Cross/Blue Shield as a limo driver for over 10 years.
He was an avid fan of the New York Yankees and enjoyed staying physically fit.
He is predeceased by his father, Francis Hawke in 2005 and his sister, Gail Begley in 2010.
Surviving are his mother, Evelyn Oppel Hawke; his niece, Stacey Haykel and her husband, Jason; his nephew, Joseph Begley; his uncle, Frederick Oppel; his aunts, Irene Priece and Elfrieda Oppel and his grandniece and grandnephew, Abigail and Jonah.
A visitation will be held on Monday for family only from 10 am to 12 noon at Higgins Home for Funerals, 752 Mountain Blvd. Watchung followed by a 12 noon service. The entombment will be at Somerset Hills Memorial Park.
