I am so sorry to hear of Shirlee’s passing. Shirlee, Elsie, and Bernice grew up with my mom Celeste Harris-Scantlebury in Montclair . Elsie was my older brother’s godmother and Bernice is mine. I was looking for information in an attempt to contact Bernice and came across Shirlee’s obit. My very deepest condolences to the family. These ladies are very special. God’s gift to whom ever knew them.

Oh how I wish I could have heard one more of Shirley stories or words of wisdom. She was such a huge part of my growing up years! I enjoyed ever picture with tears rolling down my face! I was truly blessed because I knew her and her amazing family both here and Bermuda! Love to all just a little too late! Rest In Peace Jennifer

Shirlee’s family: I'm so sorry for your loss. I went through a similar situation and I was very helped by the hope that I found in the Bible in John 5:28, which says, "Do not amazed at this, for the hour is coming in which all those in the memorial tombs will hear his voice and come out". I will forever remember the great times that Shirlee and I shared. I will surely miss our beautiful conversations about our families and her words of encouragement and wisdom. Shirlee was such an inspiration to all who she encountered. Her love of nature was awe inspiring. Our walk through the vegetable garden and flower gardens on my last visit with her will be forever etched in my memory. Dear Eugene, Evadne, Leslie and Owen, my sincere condolences to all of you, Shirlee was an amazing women, Love by all , admired by all, she is a super fighter who never gave up, we shall miss her on Altar Guild especially our team, alas, she is no more pain and is in heaven, our team is on this month and we know she is right there with us making sure everything is done correctly. I have so many fond memories of living near Shirlee and Gene was I was young. I was always welcome in their home and Shirlee was always available to talk with me about any problems in my life. What a kind generous woman she was. I got to go to school with her a few times and was amazed at her calm manner with some children with challenging behaviors. Her sense of humor also diffused some tense situations. She truly was a gifted teacher. The world is a better place because of her. She touched many, many lives.
